The Santhana Lakshmi Stotram is a Hindu prayer of praise to the goddess Lakshmi. It is popularly sung by devotees of Hinduism, especially in South India. In Sanskrit it is known as "Sri Sthuthi". In Tamil, the name is "Lakshmipathi Thiruvempavai". In Telugu it is called "Santhanalakshmi Prathamamu". In this song, God Vishnu resembles an infant crying because his mother Goddess Lakshmi does not come to him for nursing. Goddess Lakshmi continues her household chores and ignores her baby's cries for breastfeeding until he cries louder and louder. Finally, Lakshmi is forced to come back home to attend to her infant son, thus calming him down. It is believed that reciting this song will help the individual realize the importance of Lakshmi in one's own life. The prayer begins by praising God Vishnu as Adhidevatha or Adhiyajna. The prayer plays a role in Tamil culture where it is often sung by devotees at Chamayarams, a ritual form of worship involving parading statues of goddesses through the streets on decorated platforms pulled by devotees. The Santhana Lakshmi Stotram can be heard being sung at most Hindu temples in Tamil Nadu especially during festivals and processions conducted for different gods and goddesses. The prayer first appeared in the first century CE on a carved stone frieze at the Vaikuntha Perumal Temple at Kanchipuram. The prayer spread to become popular both in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, where it is sung during religious festivals. The prayer was sung by G. Ramanathan, one of the greatest Indian composers of Carnatic music. The song was first adapted by him as "Manasa Smaranamsa" in 1929 and then he created two more versions of its tune - "Mysore Vasantha" (1947) and "Sri Sthuthi" (1960). In 1976, singer K.J. Yesudas sang the song on the Hindu deity Sri Padmanabhaswamy, a form of Vishnu based in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. In 2003, a rendition by singer Srimathumitha was released as a music video to mark the 75th anniversary of Tamil Nadu's ruling party Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). In 2008, it was sung on Lord Krishna by Isai Aruvi Shankar Mahadevan. In 2011, a rendition by singer S. P. Balasubrahmanyam was released as a music video to mark the 75th anniversary of Indian National Congress party. In 2015, it was sung by singer Pravin Umrao, on his album "Paattu Kadhai", which is based on the Udupi Sampradaya tradition of performing this worship song during the Navaratri festival. In 2016, a rendition by singer Chinmayee Waghmare was released as a music video to mark the 75th anniversary of Rajya Sabha (the upper house of Indian Parliament). https://www.guthi. cfa1e77820
